Bangor Gymnastic Club Summer Course
2008 Bangor Gymnastics Club in North
Wales held their annual summer camp during the last week of August 2008. This event is always a big success at the
club and is organised by Chief Coach and Coaching Director Mr Stan Buckley.
Our sister club, The Buckley Girls Gymnastics Club in Buckley, Flintshire,
have attended our event for many years now and a great friendship has
developed between the gymnasts and coaches at both clubs. The club was run by Mr Buckley and has been
handed down to his daughter Mrs Maxine Baker, although he still remains their
Coaching Director. This year we hosted Twisters
Gymnastics Club from Derry in Northern Ireland. Their Head Coach Mrs Terri Fisher was
accompanied by ten gymnasts of all ages and two coaches. They spent three nights at a local caravan
park and were welcomed on arrival by a mixture of coaches, committee members
and gymnasts who had organised a buffet at the camp following their long
journey over the Irish Sea. Mr Walter Consonni, who is a
long time friend, Italian International Coach and mentor of Stan Buckley also
attended on a busman’s holiday from his home in Switzerland and delivered a
huge programme of coach education and gymnastics development. His wealth of knowledge and experience was
shared by all and was the icing on the cake to what was an extraordinary camp
and one which will be hard to beat in the future. A big thank you to all the
gymnasts who attended and worked so hard, Bangor coaches, Sarah Evans, Mair
Simpson, Christine Peake, Eleri Thomas, Steve Perry and Tom O’Rourke, Buckley coaches, Ceri Sass, Holly Broad, Zoe
Taylor and Sam Openshaw, Twisters coaches,
Terri Fisher, Ciara Plummer and Marina Cassidy, Chief Coach Mr Stan
Buckley and Mr Walter Consonni for their hard work, dedication and
professionalism throughout the camp. |
