since joining in 1997 has helped transform the club, introducing a high
standard of coaching and enthusiasm. Behind the scenes the club is run
voluntarily by a parents committee. History of Bangor Gymnastics Club Bangor Gymnastics Club
was established in 1981. At that time, the facilities at Bangor where one of
the best in the UK with a permanent sprung competition floor, tumble track
and pit. During the 1980’s many excellent gymnasts came from Bangor. The most
successful being David Griffiths who represented Wales during the 1990
Commonwealth Games. During the 90’s with
the original group of gymnasts and coaches retiring, the club was
re-established and it was only in 1996 with a handful of coaches and a
relatively new enthusiastic committee that the club took off again. Mair Eluned started in
1996 with the club membership down to 20. The next big step the club took was
employing Mr Stan Buckley as coaching director. Mr Buckley had recently moved
to the area from Buckley, North Wales. He continues today as director of coaching
and we now have a coaching team of 5 club coaches, 3 newly qualified coaches
and a squad of assistants. Useful Links Directions to Bangor Gymnastics Club:
